Taking care of holidays

Jan 09 John Webster Workforce Planning, Features

Shiftiez takes our user feedback seriously. At a visit to a client site last year we were shown the challenge of accounting for lots of staff changes as holiday season approached. Entering in leave was a time consuming process - so we fixed it.

The Challenge

Shiftiez works by automatically allocating available staff. But staff on leave, need to noted before rosters are built so they they aren't allocated to shifts. We looked at the best ways to list leave, and found it was similar to other times where you don't want to automatically schedule such as:

  • On-boarding staff
  • Buddying someone with more experienced employees
  • Staff on secondments
  • Temporary working arrangements
  • Training
  • Conferences

Once we understood this, we knew we needed a tool that could deal with various scenarios not just leave.

The Solution

We try our hardest to keep things simple. Rather than have lots of options for dealing with various scenarios, we wrote one tool that works with you as you narrow your selections for any staff allocation.

We wrote our new bulk updates feature to place staff on any spot (a spot is a combination of duty and shift) between 2 dates - including weekends if you need it. This drops your staff member in the right pattern, locks those allocations and lets Shiftiez automatically allocate other staff around any bulk assignments.

This feature was made available before Christmas for all our existing installations and is included for all new customers. If you are thinking about getting on top of your rostering and would like a demonstration of our features, contact us to get the conversation started.
